Spiritual Development

Bible Study

In between his seminary studies, Spiritual Development Director Ben Turner lives in the neighborhood, builds mentoring relationships, develops indigenous leaders and leads a neighborhood Bible study.

The adults of the neighborhood who wish to participate in Bible study meet every Wednesday evening for dinner, fellowship and Bible study. The study takes place in a format that fosters discussion in the group. Idigenous leadership is encouraged. Childcare is provided.  Growth groups made up of residents who meet weekly in small groups to be accountable to each other is also a facet of the spiritual development ministry.

Mentoring

It’s all about relationships. Lasting change within the neighborhood can only happen when the residents’ individual lives change first. By building relationships with their neighbors, the Parker Street Ministries staff encourages family independence and generates interest in personal responsibility.

A Church on the Corner…

Believing that God works through and in Christ’s Church and that a church presence is critical for the Parker Street residents, PSM looks forward, in the long-term, to providing a building (the community center) for a church to utilize for worship. A church will be accountable to a denomination and will exist independent of Parker Street Ministries. PSM is not a church, rather it hopes to continue to be a Christian, non-denominational organization that is a unifying ministry for all the local churches.

Neighborhood Mercy

Parker Street Ministries’ provides financial and physical support to neighborhood residents with whom the ministry has established relationships.

Examples of services include assistance with utility payments, home repair and transportation to work or medical appointments.
