PSM Ribbon Cutting
The WORD became flesh and moved into our neighborhood.

It was a dark and stormy night…But the after-school academic enrichment program moved into the Family Life Center accompanied by a crowd of well-wishers and dignatries from the community. A big thank you to those who braved the weather and attended our ribbon cutting celebration! We were pleased to show off our children, our programs, our vision and our beautifully renovated Family Life Center and GWJ Gymnasium. Check out the ribbon cutting video:

Lakeland Cited for Poverty Rate

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Lakeland was recently mentioned in an international magazine, The Economist. In a story about increasing poverty rates since 2007, Lakeland – along with five other cities – has seen jumps of four percentage points or more of people living below the poverty line, one of the biggest increases in the country. http://www.theledger.com/article/20110214/NEWS/102145051/1178?Title=The-Insider-Lakeland-Gets-Unwelcome-Mention-in-The-Economist

Renovation Update

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Cranes delivered the new air conditioning units for the Family Life Center on January 19. Windows have been replaced and tile laid. The walls have been rearranged, and there are now locker rooms. The new appliances and classroom furniture have been ordered. Painters will soon be busy. Parker Street Ministries is on the move!

During the rennovation, Academic Enrichment Program children are meeting in the community center and the offices. Please pray they will remain focused on their work and not be distracted by all the outside activity or their temporary surroundings.

Christmas comes to Parker Street

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

Thank you for supporting Christmas  Store 2010.

T. inspects the toys while Mom shops.

We had two cold, busy weekends of shopping. Pics will be on Facebook after the holidays. Now that things are settling down, we know:

  • 210 children get to enjoy Christmas this year;
  • 1600 toys were sold; and
  • Over 150 volunteers made it happen.

Thank you and we wish you a Jesus-filled Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Groundbreaking Day

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

Board, staff, and advisory committee representatives were on hand for this groundbreaking event on Tuesday morning, November 9. Pictured from left to right are Kim Schell for the staff; Tim Mitchell, Executive Director; Marsha Vass, Advisory Committee; Clint Gordon, Property Committee Chair for Board of Trustees.  Rodda construction began demolition work inside the gym that afternoon. Phase One, the Youth Center renovation, is expected to be completed by March 2011. No more leaks! Air conditioning that works! Updated bathrooms!  More children served! PTL and pray the academic program will continue to run smoothly throughout this project.
