Volunteers Needed

Volunteers Needed for Parker Street Ministries’ Academic Enrichment Program

Due to lack of volunteers, we are not running our afternoon program at full capacity and have several families on our waiting list. To run effectively, approximately 12 volunteers a day are needed. On average we have 4-5 volunteers. The volunteer’s time commitment is one consistent day a week for one semester. Volunteers are needed Monday-Thursday from 4:30-6:00 to assist with homework and read with our students. A few volunteers are needed on Fridays to assist with our K-3rd grade Bible and Fun Friday activities. Students are K-8th grade. This program takes place at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 719 N Massachusetts Ave.

The Academic Enrichment Program serves a very needy group of children living in the Parker Street neighborhood. This year’s students are 99% minority with 75% reporting incomes below the federal poverty level, with 93% eligible for the federal lunch program. Parker Street Ministries strives to be the hands and feet of Jesus as we live near and serve these children in this at-risk community.
